chocolate covered strawberries

how does the rest of the world survive without my friends in their lives?

.... people who make me laugh & know when i can ....
.... let me baffle and confuse them into the night with fumbled thoughts until i find a way to express what i mean - long after they leave ...
.... offer solutions for my problems, because i need to hear them, while they know i'll just keep on fumbling through my own way ....
.... people who know when even the most ernest "i'm great thanks" isn't so ....
.... and can read a casual invitation as a desperate plea ...
.... and treck across town to make me chocolate covered strawberries !

guardian angels

Ever have those moments where not long later you can look back with perfect clarity and say what the hell did i say or do that for? Where was my guardian angel tonight to give me a kick in the right direction?? Probably suffering overworked exhaustion as life has been pretty well free of disasters lately! Or busy helping that aussie bloke win the gold medal in salt lake?! ;)

sunny Melbourne

"From St Kilda to Kings Cross is thirteen hours on a bus ... I'd give you all of Sydney Harbour, all that land and all that water, for that one sweet pro....menade."

What I love about Melbourne (not quite so eloquently as Paul Kelly!) in no particular order:

* balmy summer nights with vino and a great mate on a footpath in fitzroy street
* cool changes
* coffee
* mum
* mum's coffee
* the orchestra's free outdoor summer concerts
* moonlight cinema in the gardens
* seasons
* Ti Amo
* history
* my history
* walking home from work
* the green bits
* the grungy bits
* student rush tickets
* my sneaky free carpark by the river
* Bennett's Lane
* Kakke & Thaila
* bartering over cheese and tomatoes in Italian
* eavesdropping on old Italian ladies gossip
* Hawkers Market
* republicanism

.... and everything i'm yet to discover
:)

Leadership

"It's not our job to cater to the lowest common denominator. It's our job to raise it." - Jed Bartlett, The West Wing. Yes, sadly a fictional quote.

The Sharp End or the Pointy End?

Why are some people attracted to living on the knife's edge and others aspire to be first class jetsetters, and think the answers are to be found in the bottom off the first class wine bottles? Something attracts me to the Sharp End and I'm forever grateful for it. A day doesn't pass without a challenge, and from there follows some serious self-reflection and a wonderful opportunity. Challenges are a source of inspiration, an opportunity to make a difference - to me myself i or for people around me or better still both. Take the rough road. It's much more fun!
